The only agricultural rituals we know of are the ones requiring large annual blood sacrifices to bring the Wasteland's barren areas up to usability (and, if I recall correctly, those have diminishing returns year-over-year). Magic is harder to make widespread – it's dependent on bloodlines. Maybe they hail from a land where the Gods Below take a more active role in things after all, in Calernia demons wait to be summoned, but angels speak to heroes on their own we already know the Fae realms are suspected to be completely different on other continents, so perhaps the same is true of the gods.Ĭlick to shrink.They indeed don't seem to be acting against magical advancements, but that might not be contempt. Maybe there are no Gnomes, given that it's been hundreds of years since they did anything more than send a Red Letter, and any records of what they do when those letters are ignored are just misinformation. Maybe they're like the Wandering Bard on a broader scale, bound tightly to their role of keeping the more free-willed actors within the genre the gods want to see. Maybe they're extremely cautious about their own safety, shutting down anything that might potentially lead to a threat long before it gets there. Maybe they believe they need to keep the world stable (keeping Calernia as swords-and-sorcery, themselves as something postindustrial or sci-fi, other lands as appropriate). but they don't seem to do anything with it they don't interfere with things on Calernia except to keep tech advancements down.
